In this amendment Minor that has been deleted in the existing Act has been added back in the amendment, which means that adult of 18 years can only enter into marriage contract without interference to religious connotation of “Puberty”. Section 3 explains the punishment for male contracting party like adult male marrying a female child. However, law is silent on the punishment of female bride if she is above 18 years and male groom is below 18 years. There should be a punishment for whoever gives a child into marriage whether female or male. The existing law holds only male accountable therefore amendment recommends to add both genders.
